Hundreds of children from all parts of Israeli society lost a parent or both parents in the 'Iron Swords' war. Some also lost their family, their home and the community they grew up in.

The enormous tragedy created extensive social action and a civic spirit of volunteering. Alongside the moving giving, complex problems were revealed: multiple players, duplication, uncoordinated and unsynchronized treatment, lack of understanding of the complete picture and an abyss of needs that characterized the various areas of impact from the war
